Our club is fortunate to have Philip Lovejoy, the newly-appointed executive director of the Harvard Alumni Association, as the speaker at our Annual Dinner, to be held Tuesday, May 12th in Portland. All Harvard alums from the undergraduate and graduate programs are invited. Alums may be bring guests as well. Alumni with active membership (as of May 12th) will receive discounts on dinner tickets. Speaker biography
          Philip’s employment at Harvard began in 1998, but the University has always been a part of his life. The son and grandson of Harvard graduates and dedicated alumni volunteers (and great-grandson of a Radcliffe alumna), he recalls dinner table conversations about Harvard’s positive impact on the world. Those conversations, and the many he has had with alumni around the world, inform his vision for developing a deeply engaged and connected alumni body for Harvard—alumni who are excited about the Harvard of today and the Harvard of the future, and who will continue to steward the University as ambassadors, volunteers, and donors.
          From 1998 to 2004, he was director of external affairs at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, where his responsibilities included directing the public programs and all fundraising efforts. Since joining the HAA in 2004, he has worked in a variety of roles, previously serving as deputy executive director, director of University-wide alumni affairs, and associate director of alumni education. Philip has positioned the organization to deepen alumni engagement with Harvard through five points of connection: access to intellectual content, connection to the campus and students of today, treating alumni as “insiders,” increasing participation in volunteerism and philanthropy, and promoting participation in alumni communities. In partnership with the critically important network of alumni volunteers, Philip and the HAA are working to translate positive feelings toward Harvard into a deeper alumni engagement with the University and an abiding commitment to its success.
