Please join us for an inaugural all-Ivy event in Bend, featuring Pulitzer Prize winning journalists Nicholas Kristof (Harvard AB) and Sheryl WuDunn (Cornell AB, Harvard MBA, Princeton MPA). They will be speaking about Nick’s latest book, Chasing Hope: A Reporter's Life, and also introducing us to wines from Kristof Farms, their Willamette Valley winery.
We will provide appetizers/hors d’oeuvres and, of course, wine tasting! Nick’s books and wines from Kristof Farms will be also available for sale and signing and include a $25 credit toward a minimum purchase of wines.
We’re excited to host this event in Bend and hope it will be the first gathering of many to help us build a strong Ivy community here.

About our Presenters
Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn are the first married couple to win a Pulitzer Prize for journalism. They won the prize for their coverage of the Tiananmen Square democracy movement and subsequent crackdown in The New York Times, and Nick won a second Pulitzer for his coverage of the Darfur genocide. Nick later served as editor of the Sunday editions of The New York Times and is now a columnist for the paper.
Sheryl left The Times after a career as a correspondent and editor and is co-founder of FullSky Partners, advising for-profit ventures with a social mission in technology and healthcare. FullSky drives smart philanthropic funding into innovative cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, including pediatric brain tumors. She also serves on several corporate and nonprofit boards, including BayFirst Financial Corp., Harvard University and Oregon Public Broadcasting. They are authors of five best-selling books together, including the No. 1 best-seller “Half the Sky,” and have made a number of PBS documentaries.
After attending schools in Yamhill, Nick graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard and studied law at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship. His latest book is a memoir, “Chasing Hope.” Sheryl grew up in Manhattan and attended Cornell, Princeton and Harvard Business School. Newsweek listed her as one of 150 “women who shake the world.”
They live on the Kristof family farm where Nick grew up, near Yamhill, Oregon, and produce prize-winning hard cider and wine from their estate apples and grapes, available through KristofFarms.com.

About the Book
Here is what Bill Gates said about Nick’s book in the WSJ:
x
“There is no question we are living through challenging times—which is why I look for books that remind me that progress marches forward, even in the face of setbacks. Nick Kristof’s ‘Chasing Hope’ fits that bill and more. It is a fascinating and uplifting account of his life as a journalist. Although I’m deeply familiar with his writing—an article that Mr. Kristof wrote about childhood mortality inspired us to start the Gates Foundation—it was fun to learn about his parents and early years. Some of his stories are pretty wild. I knew that foreign correspondents have to be creative to get the story, but this book helped me appreciate just how much ingenuity it takes. More importantly, Mr. Kristof continues to shine a light on inequity around the world, and on the remarkable individuals who are making life better for the world’s most vulnerable people. If you are looking for reasons for optimism this winter, ‘Chasing Hope’ is a great place to start.”
